If you’re looking for one of the most luxurious afternoon tea experiences in London, The Savoy on The Strand is a classic choice. This year, Hazel and I continued our tradition of celebrating our November birthdays somewhere special—and after previously enjoying dinner at The Savoy Grill, we knew we wanted to return for their famous Afternoon Tea.
📍 Location
The Savoy
The Strand, London, WC2R 0EZ
Perfectly located in central London, The Savoy’s Thames Foyer is known for its elegant ambiance, live music, and exceptional service.

Afternoon Tea Options at The Savoy
The Savoy offers several afternoon tea experiences depending on your preferences:
1. Standard Afternoon Tea – £90 per person
This is the option we selected. It includes a variety of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and sweet pastries, served with your choice of tea.
2. Prestige Afternoon Tea – £180 per person
A more indulgent option that includes:
• A glass of Laurent-Perrier Heritage Champagne
• A Lobster & Caviar tasting experience
• An extended range of sandwiches and sweet treats
3. Afternoon Hugh Tea – £115 per person
Comes with an additional selection of comforting hot dishes.
4. Vegetarian & Plant-Based Afternoon Tea – £95 per person
Ideal for dietary needs but still maintains the elegance of the traditional menu.

The Atmosphere & Decor
The decor inside the Thames Foyer is stunning—sophisticated, warm, and full of character. A dance theme runs through the room with elegant dancers painted on the walls. The experience is made even more magical with live music; on the day we visited, a talented pianist serenaded guests as we sipped tea and enjoyed the food.

Tea Selection
We both chose English Breakfast Tea, which remains my safe choice. I keep promising myself I’ll venture into more floral or herbal teas, but I’m not quite there yet! If you have a favourite tea for afternoon tea experiences, let me know in the comments.

Food Review
Sandwiches
Although unlimited, the flavour profile wasn’t particularly memorable for me.
Our selection included:
• Spicy egg mayonnaise
• Cucumber & mint
• Salmon (my favourite)
• Beef
• Butternut tart
You can request refills of any sandwich you enjoy, which is a nice touch.
Sweet Treats
The dessert course was much stronger:
• A refreshing apple slice
• A rich chocolate cake
• Classic warm scones with jam and clotted cream
The service was attentive, warm, and consistent throughout our visit.

Final Thoughts
The Savoy Afternoon Tea is perfect for special occasions thanks to its stunning ambiance, live music, and premium service. Although the sandwiches didn’t wow me, the desserts and overall experience made it worthwhile.
Next on our celebration itinerary? Dinner at The Ritz—stay tuned for the full review!
Until next time, Petrina x
