Raphael Saadiq at the Indigo O2

For my Mums birthday, my brother and I surprised her with tickets to see Raphael Saadiq at the Indigo O2. We saw him 10 years previously at the Indigo O2. We were standing and was right at the front but this time we purchased balcony seats.

The O2 is in Greenwich and is easy to get to by car and public transport. The closest station is North Greenwich Tube Station. Parking is £6 per hour but if you have a cineworld card you can get a cinema ticket and you get free parking for 4 hours. You will have to take your cinema ticket to the parking office and they will validate your parking ticket. I didn’t tell you this lol.

The doors doors opened at 7 so mum and I decided to grab something to eat before and make a night of it. We opted for Wagamama. There was a queue outside but it moved quickly and we were inside within 10 minutes. We received a quick and friendly service. We were in and out within 40 minutes.

We walked straight into the Indigo before security checks. It was quite empty when we arrived.

Charlotte Dos Santos was the supporting actor. She came on at 8pm. She sounded like a mixture of Erakaybh Badu and . Her set lasted for just under an hour. She was a great performer and her voice was amazing. No note out of tune. I will definitely be looking her up online to hear new music.

Raphael came on stage after 9. His style had changed from the last time we saw him. Dressed in a black suit with silver studs and a massive black hat. He’s new music was also completely different.

The songs were nothing special. In between songs he would tell the audience stories about hes childhood. He told us he was the youngest of 14 and he’s Dad was a busy man. He’s next song was called Jimmy Lee who was he’s old brother who suffered from addiction.

Overall, the evening was ok. I was a bit disappointed as the previous show was amazing. During this performance, he couldn’t remember the words to his old songs but I was surprised to hear some of the song he had produced. One of his songs was Cranes in the Sky by Solange Knowles which I love.

Rating: 6/10
